The Alice Food Pantry serves anywhere from 75-200 families in Jim Wells County EVERY WEEK. It is staffed by crews of approximately 15 volunteers per day. They interview customers, fill orders, input data into the computer, sort food, and stock shelves.
The City of Alice Parks & Recreation Department have been a huge blessing to the Pantry. They are frequently called upon to help unload food when we have a shipment on Tuesdays. They are always willing if available. We have also benefited from the involvement of various youth groups. It's always great to have the youth, who have energy, involved!
Assistance is offered to families MONTHLY. Our funding comes from grants, donations from churches and individuals, receipts from Trash and Treasure and fundraisers. Current food cost is $8,000-$10,000 PER MONTH. Your partnership makes a difference!
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Throughout the year, you may help by donating cash, food, hosting a food drive or volunteering your time. Please be aware, we do prefer monetary donations as we can purchase $7 worth of food for $1, because of our association with the Corpus Christi Food Bank.
Regularly needed items for the Food Pantry:
Dried beans
Juice
Tuna
Rice
Canned Pinto Beans
Pasta
Soup
Canned Tomatoes or Tomato Sauce
Cereal
Corn
Green Geans
Peanut Butter
Canned Fruit
However, we are always grateful for physical food donations, and hosting a food drive at your school, church or business is a wonderful help as well! Regularly needed items are listed on this page. Please donate only non-perishable items.
We do also need able bodied volunteers to help unload food deliveries on Tuesday mornings, and distribute food on Wednesday mornings! Please contact us if you are interested / available to help in that way. This is a fantastic way for high school students to accrue NHS or volunteer service hours!
